Finite element method has been the most powerful and most frequently used numerical method for the analysis of structures made of composite materials. This paper provides an overview on the progress made in our work on partial hybrid finite element method for stress analysis of composite structures. By means of the iso-function method and the classification method of stress modes, the stress polynomials in the hybrid element are constrained by the number of displacement degrees of freedom in the element, that is similar to the displacement polynomials. In order to develop global/local finite element models, six new elements have been developed. Numerical examples are presented to show the efficiency of the method.
