Pressure plate extractor was used to calibrate a new brand of Shuangquan No.42 and Schleicher & Schuell No.589 White Ribbon filter papers. SOme standard compacted and undisturbed expansive soil specimens were measured with the filter paper. The suction values wre varied with the equilization time, the contacted area and different initial water content of the filter paper. Then, the precision of suction measurement was discussed.
