The natural language interface is an improtatn part of intelligent intefaces. To understand the natural language is so hard that presently to develop a practical natural language interface becomes nearly impossible. Where are the key issues, and how to avoid the unsolved problems to implement a convenient natural language interface for a intelligent system ? This paper analyzes in detail the main problems and discusses the strong and weak points of the techniques nost in use, and also presents ideas and strategies for designing and realizing a Chinese natural language interface. The authors hope that the analysis and discussion make a valuable addition to the research on intelligent interfaces.
