Performance of Ball Bearings with a New Cage, Holding MAC Lubricant in the Porous Resin

Using the extraction method, one procedure for manufacturing porous materials, we have developed porous polyetheretherketone (PEEK) for bearing cage material. This material has high strength and high porosity. Ball bearings were evaluated using a new cage in which the pores were filled with multiply alkylated cyclopentane (MAC) lubricant [1], The newly developed bearing exhibits much longer life and lower rotational torque than that of bearings using PFPE and MAC greases in a vacuum.
