The Conversion of Dofasco's No 1 CC from 254 mm to 216 mm

The conversion of Dofasco's slab caster to 216 millimetres was part of Dofasco's Primary Facilities Optimization project. The goal of the project was to increase Steelmaking capacity with the least capital cost. This paper describes the major equipment modifications that were carried out during the caster conversion. The mould, quick change stand, and primary and secondary cooling systems required significant equipment changes to reduce slab thickness and increase maximum casting speed by 18 percent.
