Use of Computer Software to Enhance Process Monitoring

We have shown the power of computer applications to expand the process management program beyond merely collecting raw data and using it to control the process. The tools available for interpretation and analysis using the computer far exceed what can be done by hand. There is a cost associated with process control, most of it associated with people. There is also a benefit. The specifics may vary from plant to plant and from process to process, but improved control always leads to better quality product and, as a consequence, better economics. Ultimately, regardless of the specific tool selected, raw data collected, or interpretative functions applied, process monitoring becomes most valuable when used by people with experience and training in the processes being monitored.
