Optimization of imaging processes by use of designed experiments and quality loss functions

Imaging systems are always multivariate, typically involving response functions which relate lightness and intensities, and sometimes even families of functions, that must be optimized to produce the best possible images. A perferred method for minimizing the work involved in empirically optimizing a product or process is that of "designed experimentation".
