An 8-inch thick, 18-inch diameter woven-fiberglass cylindrical composite has been successfully prepared using a resin transfer molding technique, with a 1-3-phenylene-2-(bis-oxazoline)/phenolic thermoset copolymer as the high strength, heat-resistant matrix. No exotherm during the cure process was detected by 10 embedded thermocouples. Also, an 8-inch thick, 18-inch square fiberglass composite of the same thermoset composition was successfully prepared by a ply lay-up and compression molding technique. The cross-section surfaces exhibited only a minimal amount (<1percent) of very tiny voids, which is considered excellent for such a large composite cured without vacuum.
