The experimental results in the past two years of Chinese 25 MWt coal-fired MHD generator are presented, as a new progress the peak output of 130.8 kW and continued generating duration of 1 hour 13 minute have been reached. On the other hand, thegasdynamic behavior of diffuser has been investigated experimentally and analytically. A 1-D code with Naccormack method for the diffuser has been established and supplemented into the original calculating code for channel design. A combined calculationfor channel together with the diffuser has been carried out. Taking the electric leakage effects into account, the calculated results show a good agreement with the experiment, which implies the feasibility of combined calculating code for design oranalysis of coal-fired MHD generator. Additionally the improvement in MHD generator performance resulted by redesigning the diffuser has been predicted.
