This paper describes a new theory and method, Phase-separation Analysis of Remote Sensing Images for reconstructing regional structural deformation fields and recovering tectonic stress fields on the basis of characteristics of multispectral remote sensing images and properties of the genetic relationship between major transverse tensional Joints and related folds and faults. The main steps and procedures of the method are illustrated and some examples of applications are given.
