An extensive series of tests was conducted on a127.5 m~3 WEMCO SmartCELL? in order to evaluatemetallurgical performance and energy consumption. Accuratepower measurements were made using integrating, averagingpower meters, reading voltage and current on all three legs ofthe power supply. Multiple analysis of variance and covarianceshowed that rotor velocity was by far the most important factorin determining power consumption. Pulp density of the feed hadlittle significant effect. In most cases, increasing pulp depth inthe machine slightly increased energy consumption. This effectwas strongest with greater rotor engagement, tank aeration, andgreater pulp depth.
