Implementing ISO 14001: A Discussion of Options

Many corporations have had solid environmental programs that meet all regulatory requirements for over two decades. Even so, the ISO 14001 standard defines elements that have typically not been part of compliance-oriented programs. The standard sets forth a more holistic approach to environmental management that the authors view as effective and efficient. The standard challenges each organization to take stock of its environmental aspects, establish it own objectives and targets, commit itself to effective and reliable processes and continual improvement, and bring all employees and managers into a system of shared and enlightened awareness and personal responsibility for the environmental performance of the organization.
