A fundamental concept of clinical pharmacokinetics is that there is a relationship between the concentration of a drug in the blood and the pharmacological or toxic response to the drug. This assumes that the drug concentration in the blood is proportional to the drug concentration at its site of action. Clinical pharmacokinetics provides a framework to interpret the measured drug concentrations in blood and candidates the relationship between drug dose and effect.
