Immunologic mechanisms of autoimmune haemolytic anaemia

Autoimmune haemolytic anaemia (AIHA) is a primary autoimmune disease in which there is no identifiable underlying cause(e.g.neoplasia, infection, drug therapy) for the observed immune-mediated haemolysis AIHA may occur as an independent disease entity or in combination the autoimmune thrombocytopaenia (AITP) or as part of the multisystemic autoimmune disorder systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE).
