The properties and structure of coals indicating transtional structure in coaiification, gas coal (R_o - 0.86%; C~(daf) 84.3%) and semicoking coal (R_o 1.46%; C~(daf) 90.6%) and their lithotypes - vitrains and fusains were investigated. Structural parameters and properties of coals and lithotypes characterizing their colloidal struture have been presented. Gas coal shows the structure which is transitional between an organosol and an organogel. Semicoking coal shows the transitional structure between an organogel and xerogel. The transitional structure features are most evident in vitrains. Fusains can be classified as untypical xerogels.
