摘要

An assessment of quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSARs) and their usein legislation has been undertaken by an European Centre for Ecotoxicology and Toxicology ofChemicals (ECETOC) task force. Some of the conclusions are presented with particular attentionbeing drawn to those issues that directly affect the use of QSARs in legislative schemes. The ef-fect of variability in such QSARs and consequently on the prediction of environmental impactis illustrated. The work of a second ECETOC task force in developing a risk assessment model us-ing sensitivity and uncertainty analyses is then described.
