TECHNICAL ECONOMICAL STUDY FOR LOW AND INTERMEDIATE LEVEL RADIOACTIVE WASTES DISPOSAL IN CUBA

According to the perspectives to conclude and operate the Juragua Nuclear Power Station and development of nuclear applications, the necessity to establish one suitable low and intermediate level radioactive wastes disposal system in Cuba is justified. With these objetives we working in the conceptual design of one solution variant according to the characteristics of the country and it's technical-economical studies. These studies include the wastes characteristics, the design of the repository, package of the radioactive wastes, as well as, the studies for siting, conditioning and performance assessment in a preliminary stage. The practice and international experience, as well as, the recommendations from the IAEA (1-4) to perform these studies have been considered.
