In this paper attempts are made to presenta new form of multivariate empirical model forbioindication of topsoil fertility apart from site-specific conditions. In presented simplified version,the model is based on comparison of measured values withmodel-predicted minimum for microbial biomass carbon(MB-C) and with model-predicted maximum forextracellular organic carbon, extractable in 0.5MK_2SO_4 (EX-C). Model estimates were derived fromcorrelations between estimated microbial parametersand important soil abiotic factors (C_(ox), pH_(water),pH_(KCl), soil texture, O_(4/6)). Relatively smallamount of required parameters makes the model suitableeven for screening evaluations of relatively highnumber of sites. The efficiency of model prognoses todiscriminate among different anthropogenic andagricultural sites was proved using standardstochastic methods. Ecotoxicological relevance ofinvolved microbial parameters, practical advances andalso limitations of this approach are discussed.
