The microstructural damage initiation mechanisms in ferritic spheroidal graphite cast irons before and after different heat treaments of ferritisation are investigated in this work. Two different compositions of ductile cast irons and two different heat treatments of ferritisation were realized. The first stpe of this study was a microstructural characterization and in a second time SEM and optical microscpe "in situ" uniaxial tensile tests were carried out. Different damage mechanisms were identified and their proportions were determined from a statistical point of view.
