A multiple-excitation simulator, which is useful in applying a multiple seismic excitation to the test specimens, was used in the seismic verification tests of a piping system supported by elasto-plastic dampers at Tadotsu Engineering Laboratory of the Nuclear Power Engineering Corporation. This simulator system is composed of a hydraulic actuator and digital and analogue control systems. This digital control system is composed of a high-speed executing unit, DSP (=Digital Signal Processor) and a personal computer. Before performing the seismic verification test, to confirm the applicability and the stability of the simulator system, vibration tests were conducted with sinusoidal and seismic wave with small amplitude. The displacement and acceleration inputs from the simulator were measured and compared to the target values. This paper summarizes those results and discussions on the applicability of a multiple-excitation simulator for the tests of a piping system supported by nonlinear dampers.
