Margins of uncertainty in the prediction of fluidelastic instability in heat exchanger tube bundles

During the design and operation of a heat exchanger it is necessary to check for the possibility of fluidelastic vibration. The usual approach is to allow for some pessimism so that there is a margin between the prediction and actual occurrence of damaging vibration. This paper deals with some of the factors that control this margin.
