Safety in a microcomputer controller fo the diesel engine

Redundancy techniques and self-diagnostics while making use of mechatronics contribute to enlargement of safety and dependability in the Diesel engines. The paper shows a systematic way of safety requirements definition based on formalized model of fault trees. Some of the aspects of redundancy's implementation in electronic controllers of the Diesel engines have been presented in this article. The demonstrated system was implemented in excavator.
