Preliminary Test Results of a 13 Tesla Niobium Tin Dipole

During March and April 1997, the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) tested its four layer 13 T niobium-tin dipole. The LBNL test dipole has a coil bore of SO nun and a length of about 1 m. This magnet was trained to a central induction of 13.5 T at a temperature of 1.8 K. The peak central induction reached at 4.5 K was 12.8 T. This report describes the dipole and presents its design parameters. Preliminary training results from the magnet test will be presented.
