This paper presents a novel fuzzy-logic-based color image segmentation scheme focusing on outstanding objects to human eyes. The scheme first segments the image into rough fuzzy regions, chooses visually significant regions, and conducts fine segmentation on the chosen regions. It can not only reduce the computational load, but also make contour detection easy because the brief object externals has been previously determined . The scheme reflects human sense, and it can be used efficiently in automatic extraction of image retrieval key, robot vision and region-adaptive image compression.
