ARP: A Specialized Computer Architecture Applicable to Virtual Reality, Telerobotics and Interactive Television

Virtual Reality is attracting a great deal of attention Its use depends critically on having extremely low response times of the virtual environment to user interaction. The problem of reducing the lag between the user's head position or orientation changing and the updating of the displayed view has been described as one of the grand challenges of computing. The specialized computer architecture and other techniques described here form the basis of a solution for this problem. A radical new approach to the problem is presented. The architecture and methodology also have applcability in areas as diverse as telerobotics and interactive television.
