In a recent survey for faint red stars from a digital stack of Schmidt plates a number of candidate objects were identified. Parallaxes for four of these stars have now been obtained showing them to have extremely low luminosities. We present arguments why these and other objects selected from the digital stack are likely to be young brown dwarfs and show how they may be used to suggest that brown dwarfs plausibly make a significant contribution to the mass of the Galactic disk.
