Using polycarbosilane as polymeric precursor andtitanium powder as reactive filler phase, three kinds ofmultiphase ceramics were fabricated via reaction pyrolysis of 40vol percent polycarbosilane + 60 vol percent titanium mixturesystem in N_2, NH_3 and Ar atmospheres, respectively.Chemical reactions which took place during pyrolysis process indifferent atmospheres were separately analyzed. Influences ofatmosphere on chemical and crystallographic composition, microstructure and some properties, such as bulk density, flexural strength, porosity and linear shrinkage, of the resultingceramics were investigated.
