The presence of non-condensable gases in a vapor can greatly reduce the performance of condensers. A convective film-wise condensation of a vapor and non-condensable gas mixture flow downward inside a vertical tube is studied. A unified procedure is developed to predict the condensation heat transfer coefficient of turbulent vapor flow associated with laminar condensate. The predictions were compared with the experimental data in the literature. Parameters such as the, temperature, and gas mass fractions were presented in axial and radial profiles. The predictions clearly show the buildup of the non-condensable gas concentration near the film interface and thereby reduce condensation heat transfer.
