1,232,535. Steam generators. SULZER BROS. Ltd. 25 June, 1969 [26 June, 1968], No. 32134/69. Heading F4A. A forced through-flow steam generator comprises vertical, welded tube walls 2, 3, Fig. 1, and 4, 4SP1/SP, Fig. 2 (not shown), forming a flue-gas space of rectangular cross-section, and a ceramic-lined floor 5, similarly constructed. The walls form part of a pre-heater surface, and merge into a ceiling 6 on to which is joined a flue 7. Five opposed pairs of ceramic-lined turbulence combustion chambers 10 are positioned along the walls 2 and 3 and open into the flue space. The flue gases flow in a vertical direction through, successively, tube platens 11 which form an evaporator heating surface, tube platens 12 forming a final superheater surface, a cleaning and inspection chamber 16, tube platens 13 and 14 which may be intercalated, forming an intermediate or primary superheater surface, cleaning and inspection chamber 17, and an additional pre-heater surface of tube platens 15. The platens are arranged parallel to the flow of flue gas, and parallel to the longer sides of the rectangular flue, and preferably have horizontal tubes. The path of working medium, on one side of the generator, is shown in Fig. 3, i.e. medium leaves tube platen 15, flows down a tube wall section 20, along a bottom tube wall section 21, up tube wall sections 22, 23, 24 and to an outlet duct (not shown) via tube wall sections 25 and 26. In a modified generator, Fig. 4 (not shown), the flow of flue gas is improved by horizontal exit pipes (30).
