The geodynamic mechanism of sedimentary basin formation and its classification are popular and controversial topics in basin analysis, most people tend to accept the geodynamic basis in basin classification. We discuss here the geodynamic mechanism of sedimentary formation in the light of what we have done in Mesozoic-Cenozoic basins of Northeast of China recently, and put forward a new classification of sedimentary basin.
