In the past forty years, geological practice shows that the architectures of various basins in China are very complex and the formative process of the basin is related with the geodynamics and changes of lithospheric compositions of different evolution stages. The geological evolution of the basins in China can be divided into two major stages by Late Triassic according to the geological history of the Chinese continent, an unified but heterogeneous continental block of mosaic figure with fold belts and continental fragments. It is considered that the geological process of the basins could start from the evolution of the Paleozoic basins and turn into the development of the Meso-Cenozoic basins. The former basins were developed from the disintegration of the supercontinent to the formation of Pangea in the ancient global tectonic regime while the latter were formed in the unified continental crust shorteningly or squeezingly originated from the marginal convergence in the Neo-global tectonic regime. Therefore, these basins themselves constitute various protobasins with polycyclic evolutions in different tectonic regimes. The juxtaposition and superimposition of the protobasins resulted in the present basin entities, which control the oil / gas evolution in the basins.
