The text provides a brief survey of the role of surface tension and surface tension gradients in therrnocapillary flows. It discusses basic mechanisms for flow and flow instability, the role of boundary conditions, limiting approximations and dimensionless groups entering the usual problems dealt with in recent earth-based and low-g experimentation. A few comments about liquid layers are made followed by a more detailed account of drop and bubble dynamics.
