TAIPOWER'S RADIOACTIVE WASTE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

Nuclear power was first introduced into Taiwan in 1978. At present, Taipower has six nuclear units in operation, with a total installed capacity of 5,144 MWe. The bid for two more units at the Yen-Liao site is underway now. They are scheduled to be in operation in 2002 and 2003 respectively. In 1994, nuclear power accounted for 30.4% of the total electric generation. In September 1988, the government stipulated THE RADIOACTIVE WASTE MANAGEMENT POLICY providing the following guidelines.
