The aim of this study is the prediction of the aerodynamic noise generated by a centrifugal fan. The method is based on the aeroacoustic analogy developed by Lighthill and extended by Curle, Ffowcs-Williams and Hawkings. In this work, the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) turbulence model of FLUENT v6.2 is used to obtain the unsteady forces applied by the moving fan blades to the fluid. These forces are injected into SYSNOISE Rev5.6 in order to generate equivalent acoustic sources. Results obtained numerically and experimentally are compared in order to validate the aerodynamic noise prediction methodology. This work will help assessing to which extent the existing methodology predicts the aerodynamic noise in real and industrial applications.
