A METHOD FOR THE RAPID AND EXACT CALCULATION OF MODAL RADIATION FROM A CIRCULAR DUCT

This paper describes an analytic method for rapidly and exactly calculating modal sound radiation from a baffled circular duct. The method utilizes a series expansion to calculate the Rayleigh integral which appears in the analytic expression for the acoustic pressure. The usefulness of the method is demonstrated through a number of example calculations and it was observed that the computational time required to perform these calculations using the new method was significantly less than simulations in which the Rayleigh integral was evaluated numerically.
