Among various physical processes and their characteristics (e.g. load types and amplitudes, spatial and time characteristics of such loads, corrosion and ageing processes, etc.) mechanical properties of materials strongly determine structural changes in a mechanical object. This paper presents the concept of testing structural material effort by energetic method of determining the characteristics of structural changes in mechanical objects in the process of their degradation. Measures of those changes were determined in the process of acting with impulse loads on material samples. Characteristics of structural parameter changes in materials were determined by the powers of damping forces (internal friction) and the powers of inertial forces and dynamic stiffness forces and, determined on that basis, the work of forces causing degradation of material samples.
