Yehu, as an important Chinese national music instrument, is popularly used in Guangdong opera, Guangdong local music and Chinese national orchestra. But its sound power level has never been carefully measured. In this study, systematic measurements for determining the sound power level of the Yehu are reported. The sound power measurements of Yehu were performed in a reverberation chamber. Considering that there are differences among musical instruments and among musicians, two professional players were invited to play their own instrument respectively in the chamber. The radiated sound energy and the dynamic ranges of the Yehu instruments were investigated by 4 channel acoustic measuring equipments. Typical sound power values of the Yehu instrument were obtained through averaging when melodies, music scale and single notes are performed under pp, mp, f and ff dynamics respectively.
