A one-component-at-a-time change approach was used to study the effects of SiO_2, B_2O_3, Na_2O, Li_2O, Fe_2O_3, Al_2O_3, ZrO_2, Bi_2O_3, P_2O_5, and UO_2 on the elemental release of high-level waste (HLW) glasses as measured by the 7-day product consistency test (PCT). The effects of glass components on PCT releases were compared for several baseline glasses and for averaged values derived from many component-at-a-time change studies. The significant differences found are attributed to nonlinear and interactive response of glass dissolution to variation in glass composition. The effects of Al_2O_3, B_2O_3, and Li_2O on elemental releases were highly dependent upon their concentration in glass.
