This paper covers the description of defects incopper wire which result from the (a) melting and casting operation, (b) rolling and pickling operation, and (c) entire wiredrawing operation (rod break-down, intermediate and fine wiredrawing operation). The paper also describes the morphology of surface and subsurface defects produced by rolled-in oxides, and possible implications due to rod grain size and impurities present in the copper. The effect of trapped impurities during the carthode electrolytic process will be disucssed as will as surface defects produced in the wire due to excessive emtallic fines accumulation inthe lubricant during drawing.
