A logistic proposal for importing goods from Europe for a Mexican company

This paper presents a study of a logistic system in a specific firm and detects opportunity areas in order to propose strategies to improve its performance. Three areas of opportunity were found: 1) To improve and formalize demand forecasting models and procedures; 2) to redesign supply policies and procedures by analyzing the possibilities of consolidating orders in some European ports and of increasing shipment frequency to Mexico in order to reduce inventory levels; and 3) to review inventory control procedures in order to obtain a trustworthy level of information relating 10 stock availability. The proposal focuses on the second of these areas. The results of the model showed that it was possible to save approximately 35 percent in transport costs.
