An application protocol (AP) for forging can help the forging industry migrate to an integrated, electronic environment for the exchange of design and manufacturing information. One element of the AP is a function model that identifies information needed by the forging industry. AP development can be enhanced by computer models that simulate forging design and forging processes. This paper describes function modeling and process description capture for forged part design and manufacturing processes.
