Acid gas contaminants, such as, CO_2, H_2S and mercaptans, must be removed to a very low level from a feed natural gas before it is liquefied. CO_2 is typically removed to a level of about 100 ppm to prevent freezing during LNG processing. Sulfur compounds are removed to levels required by the eventual consumer of the gas.
