LNG REGASIFICATION ASSOCIATED WITH ELECTRIC PRODUCTION

ENAGAS, S.A., main natural gas transport company in Spain, is property owner and operates at present 3 LNG plants of receipt, storage and LNG's regasification and more than 6.000 km of high pressure gas transport pipelines. It is also developing important expansion projects in both fields. With its technological innovation program for the improvement of the energetic yield and protection of the environment, ENAGAS, S.A. develops in these moments, in collaboration with an international company that designs and manufactures equipment for the energy sector, the introduction, in its Huelva LNG plant, of an installation consisting of a Rankine cycle that takes advantage of the thermal energy of the seawater for, using a closed circuit with LNG as a cold sink, produces electric power in a generator moved by an expansion turbine. The electric power will be used so much for sale on the electric market like for his own consumption in the regasification plant. In the paper the following aspects will be presented: principal infrastructures of ENAGAS, S.A., giving special attention to the LNG plant in Huelva, physical foundations of the system, description of the installation, considered energetic alternatives, CAPEX and calculated OPEX, thermal and economic awaited yields, profitability estimated of the project and degree of development of the same one in April, 2007. The presenters of the paper are D. Juan Manuel Lopez Zurita and D. Javier Caballero, persons in charge respectively of the Departments of Technology and of Engineering LNG plants of ENAGAS, S.A. Both are Top Engineers with more than 25 years each of experience in the sector. The first one of the two will actuate as representative.
