Herbaceous weeds affect soil exploitative efficiency of loblolly pine

The root system sorption zone and herbaceous weed interaction on loblolly pine growth was evaluated for a Wolfpen soil series. Two solum depths, 50 and 70 inches, were selected as root system sorption zone treatments. Two levels of herbaceous weed competition, suppressed and unsuppressed, were assigned to each sorption zone treatment with factorial treatments being replicated three times in a completely random manner. Total stand and dominant tree growth indicated that soil exploitative efficiency at each solum depth was affected by herbaceous weed competition.
