The endangered species act and its impacts on silviculture

The Endangered Species Act as it is presently constituted and enforced can pose problems for many silvicultural activities. Threats to protected species most frequently are in the form of adverse modification of critical habitat. Efforts to mitigateunavoidable conflicts or to alter operations to minimize impacts present possibles for compromise. Incomptible silvicultural objectives may be permitted by the Habitat Conservation Plan process. Early cooperative efforts by all involved parties offer thebest chance for successful conflict resolution.
