SEPIA: A REAL-TIME EXPERT SYSTEM THAT AUTOMATES TRAIN ROUTE MANAGEMENT

The SEPIA system is a real-time software package that handles all non safety related activities usually carried out by a signalman, mainly : the selection and setting of train routes, the management of route conflicts, the choice of the station platform and of the parking tracks and the follow-up and checking of train moves. As a joint-product, it processes and distributes information concerning train traffic for management needs and to inform customers. Its major aims are to boost signal men productivity, to upgrade quality service with more emphasis on consumers and to optimise global traffic over large areas. Its decision component stems from AI techniques.
