Mapping Between Mind Cybernetics and Aesthetic Structure in Real-Time EEG Art

The popularity of brain computer interface leads many art researchers to explore the diversity of mind cybernetic methods and expression forms in EEG art. However, few focuses on the characteristics of cybernetic-aesthetic structure: whether there are paradigms that relates different EEG control modes to different aesthetic characteristics. Therefore, in this article, we make an artistic exploration of the recent EEG artworks and based on various cybernetic control, propose a cybernetic-aesthetics mapping structure that characterizes them. From the cybernetic classification, we find that various mind controls such as active control, explicit passive control, and implicit passive control can be targeted to various aesthetics which we have identified respectively as homogenous aesthetics, relational aesthetics, and subconscious aesthetics.
