A supergain high-temperature superconducting (HTS) symmetrical meander dipole antenna operating at 600MHz is presented. The design of the radiating structure was based on the linear lGHz half wavelength dipole. The HTS structure was fabricated from thick film Yba_2Cu_3O_(7-x) (YBCO) material deposited on yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) substrate. It has an aspect ratio of 1.0. A coplanar strip feed line has been employed to ease feeding connection from the side of the antenna. In addition, a quarter-wavelength sleeve balun was employed which also serves for matching purposes. Interestingly, the linear dipole can be shrinked in size whilst maintaining the operating frequency. Furthermore, the superconducting meander dipole showed an improvement of nearly 8.0dB gain over similar copper structure at 300K. It was also found to exhibit a supergain ratio of almost 6.5.
