The paper describes a method for the transient performance (PCPA) using a two-dimensional, non-linear, time-stepping finite elements method. A direct method is presented to solve simultaneously the field and circuit equations, so the current iteration is avoided. The varying relative motion between the rotor and stator is taken into account by using the slip surface combined with variable time step length technique. Finally, the transient performance of PCPA driving the laser flashlight is simulated. The results obtained from the simulation are compared with experimental ones.
