The paper summarizes the key features of a boundary element (BE) model for solving transient acoustic problems. The mathematical basis is the boundary integral representation of the acoustic field in terms of retarded potentials defined on the boundary surface. The discretization process leads to a numerical model with attractive features (sparse real matrices) which competes with usual frequency domain BE models.
